Caroline Seroka is a Jesuit Volunteer at Friends of the Poor in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

How has your experience compared to your expectations of JVC?

I don’t think JVC could or should ever be what we expect. Most of us came from college where interactions and service sites had to be balanced with classes and similar obligations. But here you are challenged to throw yourself into the messiness of relationships and really stay accountable to them.

What are your post-JVC ambitions?

Medical school, maybe the ER. I like the nature of being able to care for people when their lives are crazy. Nothing could get crazier than our office at Friends of the Poor, so I think I can handle it.
