Program Manager – Detroit
Fun Fact: Speaks Kiswahili.
What experiences brought you to JVC’s staff?
I formerly worked for JVC and before joining staff again spent one year as a Salesian Lay Missioner and seven years in Kenya as a Maryknoll Lay Missioner in university and hospital chaplaincy settings.
What do you like to do in your free time and why do you enjoy doing it?
Playing sports and reading with my two daughters (Rehema 11, Bethany 10). Also biking, hiking, eating out watching movies.
Who is your role model and why?
Susan Nagele, a fellow Maryknoll Lay Missioner who has served in East Africa for 30+ years as a doctor. She has an amazing commitment to culture, simplicity, and her Catholic faith (even though she confronts it for its imperfection on a regular basis). Also Roy Bougeoius, MM, a fellow Maryknoller who works for justice from roots in faith and is willing to suffer consequences for his beliefs.
How would your friends or family describe you?
Passionate, silly, welcoming, and approachable.
What do you wish other people knew about JVC?
It is training for counter-cultural living.
What is your favorite passage from the bible and why?
Luke 4: 16-30. Jesus speaks his social mission of justice and it is so provocative that he nearly gets tossed off a cliff!
