Carly Dominick-Sobol
Carly served as a Jesuit Volunteer in St. Louis until August 2013. As a JV she worked as the City Seeds Program Coordinator at the St. Patrick Center in St. Louis, Missouri. In this role Carly led a therapeutic farming
program to connect homeless clients in the early stages of recovery from an addiction, or coping with a mental illness, with local food production at an urban farm. The City Seeds program taught clients how to grow food, the importance of nutrition and allowed clients to further their sobriety by connecting with nature.
Carly graduated from the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, MA where she majored in Biology with a pre-med concentration. Carly calls beautiful, snowy Syracuse, NY home. During her time at Holy Cross, Carly was active in many volunteer clubs on campus including Oxfam America, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and Medical Ministries International. Through her experiences in these clubs, Carly was exposed to issues of social justice and felt called to further embody the Jesuit ideal of “men and women for others” by joining JVC. As a JV, Carly appreciated working with people that were homeless, and learning more about the circumstances that put them in their current situation.
Carly’s JV year was her first experience in the Midwest and the year was filled with tales of a loving community, Missourian adventures and friendships that she will never forget. In her free time, Carly can be found turning off lights to save energy, stopping pucks on the ice rink, eating delicious food, running around outside or having a good conversation with friends (old and new). Contact Carly at recruiter@jesuitvolunteers.org or 410-800-8126 to ask questions about JVC or set up an appointment.
