Maria Ibarra-Frayre

Maria served as a Jesuit Volunteer in Milwaukee, WI until August 2013.  As a JV she worked as a Legal Assistant for the Legal Services for Immigrants Program of Catholic Charities.  Maria had the opportunity to work with domestic violence survivors who are working to fighting the system in order to fix their immigration status. mibarrafrayre

Maria graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, MI where she majored in English and Social Work.  During her experience in school she participated in various mission and social justice immersion trips that changed her perception of what it meant to live in solidarity with those around you.   Particularly she worked alongside the immigrant youth movement working for the passage of just and humane immigration reform.

During her time as Jesuit Volunteer in Milwaukee Maria had the opportunity to learn to cook (only vegetarian options) spend lot of time reading, and even learned how to knit.  Like any English major Maria loves discussion about literature and poetry, and enjoys passionate discussion on immigration issues.  Contact Maria at mibarrafrayre@jesuitvolunteers.org or 313-345-3480 to ask questions about JVC or set up an appointment

Maria will be on the road in these cities:

Detroit, MI

Mobile, AL

New Orleans, LA
