At Orientation

Ready for Orientation? This page is designed to provide important details and what to expect for those of you who have COMPLETED OR ARE NEAR COMPLETION OF ONBOARDING TASKS. 

 

Some of this info has been repeated to ensure that you are progressing smoothly into all phases. We appreciate your diligence in completing all tasks necessary to move you closer to Orientation! 

Arrival at Orientation

IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY COMPLETED THE TRAVEL SURVEY, PLEASE FILL OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:  JVC ORIENTATION TRAVEL SURVEY

 

JVC is offering shuttle pickups from LGA and JFK Airports. 

*Please note: JVC CANNOT accommodate shuttle pick-ups from any other regional airport or alternate location.   

 

IDENTIFICATION

We ask all incoming JVs to have a Real ID or Other TSA Compliant Identification with them upon arrival at Orientation.   

 

Packing List

We encourage you to use our resource “Packing Intentionally for JVC” to help with your decision-making while packing for your term of service. Click here for the PACKING INTENTIONALLY AND COMPLETE PACKING LIST. 

 

We ask that incoming JVs bring only ONE (1) LARGE SUITCASE 50 lb max and ONE (1) BACKPACK with them to Orientation. Please note: this guideline may be less than some airline baggage policies; we ask that you please observe this JVC baggage guideline as it keeps us rooted in the value of simple living, while also being mindful of space that will be available in shuttle busses, rental vehicles, and the rooms JVs will be using while at Stony Point.

 

If you're concerned this is not enough packing space, you can ship items directly to your JV house. Addresses will be shared later, and we ask that you DO NOT ship these items prior to your arrival in your city of service. Please wait until you are present in your city of service to receive any packages.

What to Expect at Orientation

Orientation kicks off the 2024-25 JVC Program Year at Stony Point Retreat Center in Stony Point, NY from August 15-19. Check back here periodically for important updates.

Getting To Your City of Service

JVC takes care of travel to your city of service. Once together at Orientation, the JVC Program Team will advise you on what to expect in terms of logistics, getting to your respective cities of service, and transport within the cities to your JV homes.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT UPON ARRIVAL IN CITY OF SERVICE

Local Orientation (LocalO) -  Tues, Aug 19 - Fri, Aug 22: Once you depart Orientation and arrive in your service city, LocalO begins! This includes pickup from airport/train station and/or welcome into your new homes, tours of agency placement sites, tours of the city, and various other locally specific events. The JVC Program Team will share the information for Local Orientation with JVs at Orientation.

 

First Day of Work - Mon, Aug 25: This date is shared with agency partners, and they know to expect you.

 

REMINDER: All volunteers are permitted to bring 1 LARGE SUITCASE AND 1 BACKPACK.
