Dear JVC Community,
With sadness and deep gratitude, we share in mourning the passing of Pope Francis, the first Jesuit pope and a faithful witness to a Church rooted in compassion, justice, and mercy. His final Easter message offered a beautiful reminder that continues to resonate with all of us at Jesuit Volunteer Corps:
“On this day, I would like all of us to hope anew and to revive our trust in others... For all of us are children of God!”
Pope Francis’ words echo the heart of Ignatian spirituality, which invites us to find God in all things—in the everyday, in one another, and especially in those living on the margins. His life reflected the Jesuit commitment of faith in action: to walk with those who are suffering and to seek justice not from a place of power, but from a place of accompaniment and humility.
This spirit is alive in the work of our Jesuit Volunteers, who serve in communities across the country—offering their presence, listening deeply, and building authentic relationships with those who are too often overlooked. These encounters, rooted in love and mutual respect, hold the power to heal, transform, and bring hope, not only to those served, but to those who serve.
We invite you—our alumni, supporters, and friends—to share your reflections, memories, or the impact Pope Francis has had on your life and faith journey on this memory board. As we grieve his passing, we also celebrate his legacy—a legacy that lives on in every act of love, justice, and courage carried forward by this community.
In peace and gratitude,
John Giere
