Adding a Layer of Stability at Notre Dame Primary School

As a Jesuit Volunteer at Notre Dame School of Milwaukee, Marie McDonald-Hulen assists with the after school program, supporting students from low-income first and second-generation immigrant families. 

According to the folks at Notre Dame, “JVs have brought a spirit and energy to Notre Dame that makes them incredibly willing to be flexible on the job and to support the school in many diverse ways.” 

When a JV joins a local organization as a full-time volunteer, it means our partners gain an eager and curious young leader who lives and serves with others in community. Marie is no different: “I'm excited to work with young children at the primary school. It will be somewhat new for me, and I think it will be humbling and fun. I'm also really looking forward to learning about the classroom and the education system. I would like to go to law school and work in policy reform.”

Marie is passionate about creating a world where a strong educational background is accessible for children no matter where they come from. This commitment is just one example of over 270 volunteers who dedicate a year or more to service through JVC. Our partner agencies and the local community they serve add 40 hours a week of tangible experience that changes our volunteers for good.

Notre Dame is an example of one organization doing good work that also benefits from the talent of our young volunteers. Additionally, they represent a school with a mission on par with ours: to serve those on the margins. A task they are able to do with more consistency and capacity when they have a JV placed with them in Milwaukee. In fact, they’ve said they agree, “In many ways we feel JVC and Notre Dame have missions that support one another, which makes this partnership all the more beneficial.”
